Nick Jonas recently shared the emotional story of his daughter Malti Marie Chopra Jonas’s birth and early health challenges. In a heartfelt interview, he detailed the intense circumstances surrounding her arrival.

Malti’s Arrival

Malti was born significantly premature and weighed just 1 pound, 11 ounces. Nick and his wife, Priyanka Chopra, expected their daughter to arrive in April 2022 but received surprising news about her early delivery.

During the interview on the Jay Shetty Podcast, Nick expressed the shock of the situation, stating, “We got a call that it’s going to be sooner… We got to the hospital and came out 1 pound, 11 ounces and purple basically.” Malti was immediately rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for urgent care.

Health Struggles and Hospital Experience

The couple faced a challenging journey as Malti fought for her health over the next several months. Nick described the emotional and physical toll this period took on both parents, especially amid the Covid-19 pandemic. They managed 12-hour shifts at the hospital for 3.5 months.

  • Malti received six blood transfusions during her NICU stay.
  • Nick recalled, “She fought every day for 3.5 months and slowly started to gain some weight.”
  • After months of care, Malti was finally able to go home.

Parenting Journey

Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra married in 2018, with ceremonies blending both Christian and Hindu traditions. The couple welcomed Malti via surrogacy in January 2022. Their experiences during Malti’s early health struggles have profoundly impacted their perspective on parenting and life in general.

Nick is currently preparing for his upcoming film, “Power Ballad,” featuring Paul Rudd, which is set to debut on June 5, 2023.
