Celebrity River Cruises is poised to expand its presence in Europe with a transformative plan that includes the addition of ten new ships, increasing its fleet to a total of 20 vessels by 2031. The new initiative begins with the construction of the Celebrity Compass, the company’s first river cruise ship. Expansion of the Fleet
The introduction of new ships will make Celebrity River Cruises one of the largest operators in the European river cruise market. The company is set to launch its river cruise offerings in 2027 with the Celebrity Compass and Celebrity Seeker. Following these, the Celebrity Wanderer, Celebrity Roamer, and Celebrity Boundless will join the fleet in 2028.
Growing Popularity of River Cruising
The commitment to expanding the fleet highlights the rising popularity of river cruises among travelers. Celebrity River Cruises has already opened bookings for its anticipated 2028 season. This season will feature over 160 sailings across more than 50 destinations in Europe.

- Lower Danube Cruises: Six sailings from Bucharest, including an overnight stay in the vibrant capital city, navigating through the stunning Iron Gates gorge.
- Rhine River Cruises: Over 60 sailings between Basel and Amsterdam, showcasing medieval castles and charming villages like Strasbourg and Rüdesheim.
- Upper Danube Cruises: Routes from Regensburg or Nuremberg to Budapest, highlighting magnificent castles in Germany, Austria, and Hungary, with select trips coinciding with the Gäuboden Festival.
- Dutch Tulip Season Cruises: Seasonal voyages between Brussels and Amsterdam during peak bloom, featuring iconic sites like Keukenhof Gardens.
- Christmas Markets Cruises: Cruises from Basel to Amsterdam, offering guests the chance to explore festive markets in picturesque towns.
