GO Train Breakdown Near Union Station Disrupts Toronto Commuters
Toronto’s GO train services faced significant disruptions following a signal issue that disabled a train near Union Station during rush hour. The incident occurred on a Monday morning, with Metrolinx, the provincial transit agency, confirming no injuries were reported.
Impact of the Breakdown Near Union Station
A train that departed Union Station at 8:16 a.m. experienced a problem with its switch signal. This issue caused the rear of the train to come off the tracks at low speed. As a result, Metrolinx announced substantial delays affecting transit services across the entire network.
Service Modifications
In light of the disruptions, Metrolinx advised commuters to consider alternative options, such as the TTC. The Union Pearson (UP) Express service was suspended, further complicating travel for many.
Current Service Status
Service has resumed on the UP Express, now running on a 30-minute schedule. The agency outlined the following adjusted services for the evening:
- Lakeshore East Line: 30-minute service
- Lakeshore West Line: 30-minute service
- Kitchener Line: 30-minute service; express trains will make all stops, with no Bramalea turnbacks
- Milton Line: Four outbound trips from Union at 16:10, 17:10, 18:10, and 19:10, departing from Track 10
- Barrie Line: Hourly bidirectional service
- Richmond Hill Line: 60-minute homebound service
- Stouffville Line: 60-minute homebound service
Future Updates
Metrolinx has not provided a timeline for when the disabled train will be removed or when normal service will resume. Commuters are advised to stay updated on service changes as the situation develops.
