Knicks Pursue $19M 3-and-D Wing in Three-Team Negotiation: Report
The New York Knicks are currently engaged in trade discussions, eyeing various players, including New Orleans Pelicans’ Saddiq Bey. As the trade deadline approaches on February 5, the Knicks aim to enhance their roster while capitalizing on their recent performance.
Knicks’ Trade Ambitions and Current Standing
The Knicks have surged to second place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 31-18, following a six-game winning streak. They boast the league’s top defensive rating at 95.2 and third-best offensive rating at 119.5 during this run. This successful phase has prompted the team to consider strategic roster additions.
Saddiq Bey’s Rising Profile
Saddiq Bey, a 26-year-old wing player, has caught the attention of several franchises, including the Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Phoenix Suns. Over the past month, Bey has averaged 21.2 points, 6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists, shooting 44.4% from beyond the arc. His impressive performance comes after recovering from an ACL tear that sidelined him for the entire 2024-25 season.
In 43 games this season, Bey has averaged 16.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while maintaining shooting percentages of 44.6% overall and 34.1% from three-point range. He is in the second year of a three-year contract, valued at $19 million, earning $6.1 million this season with a slight increase to $6.4 million in 2026-27.
Strategic Moves and Financial Management
The Knicks might also explore a broader deal with the Pelicans, as reports indicate interest in center Yves Missi. Additionally, the team’s focus includes potentially moving Guerschon Yabusele, who has struggled to fit into the lineup. Yabusele’s contract of $5.5 million this season includes a player option worth $5.7 million for 2026-27, which the Knicks hope to offload before it activates.
While superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo remains a headline possibility, the Knicks may find that executing smaller, calculated moves like acquiring Bey could significantly influence their playoff aspirations this season.
