Antonio Casamitjana Unveils Bold, Meaningful Poster for Seville Holy Week

Antonio Casamitjana, also known as Antoine Cas, has unveiled a striking poster for the 2026 Seville Holy Week. This artwork prominently features two important figures: El Cristo de las Misericordias, associated with the Hermandad de Santa Cruz, and the new Magdalena, created by Darío Fernández Parra for the Hermandad del Buen Fin.

Background of the Event

The official presentation of the poster was originally scheduled for noon on January 31, but it faced postponement due to a state tribute for the victims of Adamuz. Unfortunately, the Consejo de Cofradías mistakenly leaked details of the artwork before the event.

Details of the Poster

This vibrant and powerful poster captures attention with its use of color and design. Central to the piece is the magnificent crucified figure of Santa Cruz, which has appeared in previous posters from 2016 and 1971. Notably, the circumstances of rainfall on Martes Santo in those years mirrored the current year’s imagery.

Artistic Symbolism

  • The background features a rich red, symbolizing sacrifice and love.
  • Figures of angels and souls accompany Christ, interpreted through the design.
  • A golden halo around the crucifix signifies divinity, reminiscent of early 20th-century religious imagery.

Casamitjana expressed that his intention was to depict Christ as a Redeemer rather than a figure of suffering. The Magdalena is portrayed as a source of hope and love. He remarked, “The poster does not aim for quick impact; it’s an invitation to prayer and contemplation.”

Visual Elements and Creative Process

The red color represents passion, while the figures create a dynamic space rather than a simple backdrop. Casamitjana described the halo as a symbol of resurrection and the figures as reflections of Spanish culture. He highlighted the significant challenge in selecting the imagery and developing the composition.
