Hawks Trade Krejci to Blazers for Reath, Second-Round Picks
The Atlanta Hawks have officially completed a trade with the Portland Trail Blazers. The deal involves Vit Krejci moving to Portland in exchange for Duop Reath and two second-round picks.
Trade Details
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, this trade was confirmed in an announcement from both teams. The Hawks will receive:
- Their own 2027 second-round pick.
- New York’s 2030 second-round pick.
Both of these picks were previously obtained by the Trail Blazers through earlier trades.
Player Information
Duop Reath, a 6’9″ center, recently underwent surgery that has ended his season. While there hasn’t been a direct mention, Charania hints that Reath might be waived to create roster space for the Hawks. N’Faly Dante, who also faces a season-ending injury, is another potential candidate for release.
Marc Stein reported that the Trail Blazers are actively engaging in trade talks. The team intends to promote two-way players Caleb Love and Sidy Cissoko to standard contracts after the February 5 deadline.
Impact of Krejci’s Departure
The Hawks consider Krejci expendable, especially after acquiring Corey Kispert from Washington. Krejci, a 25-year-old guard standing at 6’8″, has made a notable impact this season. His averages include:
- 9.0 points per game.
- 2.1 rebounds per game.
- 1.5 assists per game.
He boasts a three-point shooting percentage of 42.3% over 46 appearances, averaging 22.3 minutes on the court.
Contract Details
Krejci’s contract is team-friendly, with a salary of $2.3 million this season and a non-guaranteed amount of $2.7 million for 2026-27. Additionally, he has a $3 million team option for the 2027-28 season. His shooting prowess is crucial for the Trail Blazers, who currently sit at the bottom of the league in three-point shooting with a percentage of 33.6%.
On the other hand, Reath is earning $2.2 million this season and may become a restricted free agent this summer, provided he finishes his contract and receives a qualifying offer, although that scenario seems unlikely.
This trade signifies a strategic maneuver for both teams as they navigate their current rosters and future prospects.
