Qantas Expands Sapporo-Sydney Flights for Winter Schedule
Qantas Airways is set to enhance its Sapporo-Sydney flight offerings in the upcoming winter schedule. The airline will modify its service on this popular route, which resumed after a hiatus of nearly six years.
Details of Qantas’ Expanded Winter Schedule
The expanded service will run from December 7, 2026, to March 31, 2027. Previously, the route operated three times a week, but modifications will increase flights significantly during peak travel periods.
Flight Schedule
- December 7, 2026, to January 31, 2027: Five round trips weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
- February 1 to February 28, 2027: Four round trips weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
- Other Times: Three round trips weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
This adjustment results in a capacity increase exceeding 50%, providing over 10,000 additional seats for travelers. The rise in flight frequency is a direct response to robust passenger demand on the Sapporo-Sydney route.
Commentary from Qantas Leadership
Nick McGlynn, Senior Vice President for Asia at Qantas, emphasized the strong response to the direct service. He noted that the connection between Japan and Australia remains strong, evidenced by the thousands of customers who have already traveled this season.
McGlynn expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming schedules, stating that more seats will facilitate travel for both Hokkaido residents seeking Sydney’s inviting climate and for Australians interested in Hokkaido’s renowned ski resorts.
This expansion not only reflects Qantas’ commitment to connecting the two countries but also highlights the appeal of both destinations during the winter months.
