City and Circular Materials Launch Program to Collect Windsor’s Old Recycling Bins

The City of Windsor and Circular Materials are launching a new program aimed at assisting residents with the disposal of old recycling bins. This initiative is a part of Windsor’s effort to better manage waste and promote recycling practices.

Details of the Program

Starting February 10, 2026, for a duration of two weeks, collection crews will gather old recycling containers from homes across the city. Residents can participate by registering online until 11:59 PM on February 8, 2026.

  • Program duration: February 10 – February 24, 2026
  • Registration deadline: February 8, 2026, at 11:59 PM
  • Notification of pickup date via email
  • Registration can also be done by calling 311

Eligibility and Logistics

This collection program is essential as only the new blue carts from GFL Environmental will be picked up. These carts are compatible with the new automated recycling system being implemented by Circular Materials.

According to Windsor’s Senior Manager of Environmental Services, Jim Leether, the older small bins and Herby Curby carts will not be collected for recycling. However, residents are encouraged to reuse their old containers wherever possible.

Participation Expectations

Leether noted an expected surge in participation. “We anticipate many residents will take advantage of this recycling opportunity,” he mentioned. As of early discussions, registrations were coming in at a rate of one per minute.

A Sustainable Future

The primary goal of this initiative is to ensure that old recycling bins do not end up in landfills. Once collected, the bins will be processed locally in Windsor and shipped to a recycling facility in Tilbury. Here, they will be transformed into pellets to be reintegrated into the plastic recycling industry.

Important Reminders

Residents are reminded to ensure their bins are emptied and accessible to facilitate efficient collection. For more information about the program and to register, visit Filmogaz.com.
