Born on October 1, 1942, in Faribault, Dennis Harlo was the son of Harlo and Irene Sterling. He graduated from Bethlehem Academy High School in 1960, where he developed a passion for sports, particularly baseball and basketball.

Personal Life

Denny married Marcia Wilkowske on October 19, 1963. Marcia passed away on April 13, 2019. Together, they raised a family that includes their children Scott Sterling, Todd Sterling (Laura), Leslie Sterling, and Brent Sterling.

Coaching and Community Involvement

Sports played a significant role in Denny’s life. He coached basketball at CCS and football at Bethlehem Academy. His dedication extended to coaching his children in various youth sports. Additionally, he umpired baseball and fastpitch games at multiple levels.

Passion for NASCAR

Denny was an avid NASCAR fan. He often traveled to watch races with his sons, highlighting his love for the sport.

Family and Legacy

He is survived by his four children and six grandchildren: David Keppers (Kailee), Krystle Foley (Joe), Aj Sterling, Tika Sterling, Garret Sterling, and Bailey Sterling. Denny also leaves behind his brother, Bruce Sterling (Linda), along with numerous relatives and friends.

Preceding Family Members

Denny was preceded in death by his wife, Marcia, his parents, and his granddaughter, Abby Sterling.

Family and friends can pay their respects during the visitation at Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault. This will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
