Major Recall Issued for Popular Shampoo and Conditioner Due to Chemical Risk
Consumers are being urged to take caution as a significant recall has been issued for the Pilgrim Anti-Dandruff Shampoo and Conditioner Set due to serious chemical risks. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has flagged this haircare duo, now withdrawn from sale, over the presence of a banned ingredient.
Details of the Recall
The shampoo and conditioner have been removed from major retail platforms, including Amazon. The alarm was raised after the products were found to contain Zinc Pyrithione, a substance not permitted in cosmetic items. The specific codes for these affected products are as follows:
- Shampoo: B0D5DBM7G7
- Conditioner: B0D5D9BF3Q
Health Risks Associated
The OPSS reported that the inclusion of Zinc Pyrithione presents a serious chemical risk to consumers. Their findings highlighted additional undeclared allergens in the products: hydroxycitronellal, hexyl cinnamal, and limonene. These allergens could provoke allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
Regulatory Compliance Issues
The affected haircare products do not comply with Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 concerning cosmetic products. Consequently, these items have been turned away at the UK border to prevent potential health hazards to consumers.
Recent Similar Recalls
This incident follows another recall earlier this month involving two designer fragrances: Hello by Lionel Richie and Hot by United Colours of Benetton Fragrances. Both were taken off shelves at Savers Health and Beauty for containing butylphenyl methylpropional (BMHCA), another banned substance.
Consumer Guidance
Shoppers are advised to return the Pilgrim Anti-Dandruff Shampoo and Conditioner to retailers for a full refund. Awareness of these products’ risks is critical for consumer safety and health.
