Canada’s Population May Reach 76 Million by 2075 in Growth Surge

Statistics Canada has released new population projections, indicating that Canada’s population may reach 76 million by 2075. This figure represents a significant decrease from last year’s forecast, which estimated a high of nearly 81 million by 2074. As of July 1, 2025, the nation’s population is recorded at approximately 41.7 million.

Population Growth Scenarios

Statistics Canada outlined three key growth scenarios for the decades ahead:

  • High-growth scenario: Predicts a population of 75.8 million to 76 million by 2075.
  • Medium-growth scenario: Estimates a population of 57.4 million.
  • Low-growth scenario: Projects a growth to 44 million.

The previous high-growth projection suggested a population of 81 million, while the medium-growth scenario was set at 59.3 million. The updated estimates reflect recent trends, including low fertility rates and changes to immigration policies.

Provincial Population Trends

Ontario and Quebec are expected to remain Canada’s most populous provinces for at least the next 25 years. Notably, Alberta’s population is forecasted to surpass that of British Columbia in the near future.

These population dynamics highlight significant demographic shifts and underscore the importance of monitoring trends in birth rates and immigration policies.

As Canada navigates this projected growth, continued analysis will be essential to address the implications for various sectors, including housing, healthcare, and employment.
