Anthropic Debuts Claude Apps for Slack and Workplace Tools

Anthropic Debuts Claude Apps for Slack and Workplace Tools

Anthropic has introduced a new feature for its Claude chatbot, allowing users to access interactive apps directly within the chatbot interface. This update, announced on Monday, aims to enhance productivity in workplace environments.

Launch of Claude Apps for Workplace Tools

The newly launched apps primarily focus on workplace tools like Slack, Canva, Figma, Box, and Clay. A Salesforce integration is expected to follow soon. Each app offers a logged-in instance accessible to Claude, enabling various functionalities such as sending messages, generating charts, and accessing cloud files.

Enhanced User Experience

  • Integrating apps improves data analysis, content design, and project management.
  • Users can activate the tools through claude.ai/directory.
  • The feature is available to Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers, excluding free users.

Anthropic stated that combining dedicated visual interfaces with Claude’s intelligence accelerates workflow efficiency. This advancement echoes OpenAI’s app system introduced in October, which also supports interactive third-party tools.

Model Context Protocol

Both app integration systems leverage the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Introduced by Anthropic in 2024, MCP launched app support in November after collaborative efforts between the companies.

Integration with Claude Cowork

The new apps can significantly boost the functionality of Claude Cowork, an all-purpose agent tool launched recently. Built on Claude Code, Cowork enables users to assign complex tasks using extensive datasets without resorting to terminal commands.

For instance, Cowork can update marketing graphics in Figma or utilize new data from Box. While the apps feature is not yet available in Cowork, Anthropic has indicated that integration will arrive soon.

Safety and Monitoring Guidelines

Anthropic emphasizes the importance of user vigilance with agentic systems. Safety documentation for Cowork advises users to monitor activity closely and restrict permissions. The company suggests creating dedicated folders for Claude instead of granting broad access to sensitive information.

Overall, the addition of Claude apps signifies a significant leap towards improved productivity in collaborative settings, aligning with modern workplace needs.
