Perth Teen Transforms Life After Unimaginable Workplace Incident
A young man from Perth experienced a life-altering incident while working at his job, resulting in the loss of his arm. Chaz Gordon, just 18 years old, was employed as a fitter and machinist at Ardello Engineering in Welshpool. He completed his apprenticeship in December and was excited to receive his certification in early 2026. However, on January 12, his routine workday took a tragic turn.
Workplace Incident Details
While operating machinery—a task he performed daily—Chaz’s dominant right arm became caught in the equipment. The injury occurred above the elbow, and he was immediately taken to Royal Perth Hospital in critical condition. Despite extensive reconstructive surgery efforts by medical professionals, they were unable to save his arm.
Community Support and Fundraising
In response to this traumatic event, a GoFundMe campaign was launched aiming to cover the expenses of a robotic arm for Chaz. The fundraiser has successfully raised $30,000 of its $35,000 goal. It highlights the essential role Chaz’s colleagues and the medical team at Royal Perth Hospital played during this crisis.

Chaz’s family expressed gratitude for the support they have received but emphasized the need for additional funds to purchase necessary equipment. They stated, “While he will receive support, it does not cover the equipment he truly needs to regain his independence.”
Looking Ahead
Chaz’s father articulated the hope for a trans-humeral robotic arm, which would help him pursue his passion for creation and building. “A new arm will allow Chaz to return to his passions and reclaim parts of his life that bring him joy and identity,” he noted.
