£100m Initiative Launches to Replace Old Pipes and Reduce Leakage
Southern Water has launched a £100 million initiative to upgrade outdated water mains in Shootash. This program targets pipes that have been in use for nearly a century. The aging infrastructure, primarily made of cast iron and other materials, has required frequent maintenance. However, the reliability of the water supply is now at risk.
Details of the £100 Million Initiative
The initiative aims to replace these old pipes with new, durable plastic alternatives. Southern Water claims that these improvements will greatly enhance water supply reliability. The benefits of the new pipes include:
- Reduced risk of bursts and leaks
- Minimized water discolouration
- Fewer interruptions to service
Impact on Local Roads
To facilitate the upgrades, road closures will be necessary along the A27 and Salisbury Road in Shootash. Southern Water has indicated that full road closures might be necessary for safety reasons. However, they plan to use two-way traffic lights when conditions allow.
Community Engagement
A drop-in event is scheduled for February 3 at Sherfield English Village Hall. Residents can meet with the Southern Water team from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM. This event provides an opportunity for community members to learn more about the project and express any concerns.
Contact Information
If residents cannot attend the event but wish to address concerns, they should contact Elle Leigh, Customer Liaison Officer at United Living. She is available via email at [email protected] or by phone at 0333 2000 019, Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM.
