Northeast Hubs Suffer 90%+ Cancellations as Over One-Third of US Flights Cut
Significant disruptions have hit air travel in the Northeast, with over one-third of U.S. flights cancelled today. According to aviation analytics firm Cirium, approximately 37.5% of flights departing from U.S. airports have been affected, totaling more than 9,000 cancellations.
Northeast Hubs Suffer 90%+ Cancellations
The cancellation rate is particularly alarming in major Northeast hubs. Washington D.C. airports experienced over 90% cancellations, while New York’s airports, including JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark, faced an 83% cancellation rate. Charlotte’s flights were similarly impacted, with 83% of its schedule cancelled.
Philadelphia Worst Hit
Philadelphia emerged as the hardest-hit major hub, with a staggering 93% of flights grounded. The high cancellation numbers are partly due to severe weather conditions across the region.

Weather Conditions Impacting Flights
Severe weather is a major contributor to these widespread cancellations. A winter storm has caused treacherous conditions across the Northeast, impacting travel not only on the ground but also in the air.
As travel disruptions continue, passengers are advised to monitor flight statuses and remain in contact with their airlines for updates. While the situation is fluid, the overall impact on air travel is expected to persist as conditions evolve.
