Dominick Cruz Inducted into UFC Hall of Fame, Class of 2026
The UFC has officially announced the first inductee into the Hall of Fame for 2026: Dominick Cruz. This recognition celebrates Cruz’s remarkable career as a champion in both the WEC and UFC bantamweight divisions. The announcement was made during the UFC 324 broadcast by officials including Dana White, UFC President and CEO.
Dominick Cruz: A Career of Triumph and Resilience
“Dominick Cruz is one of the greatest bantamweights in combat sports history,” Dana White stated in a press release. He praised Cruz’s athleticism and impact on the bantamweight category, expressing the honor of his impending induction.
Career Highlights
- Professional Record: Cruz holds an impressive record of 24 wins and 4 losses.
- UFC Hall of Fame Induction: Cruz will be the 17th member inducted into the modern wing.
- Noteworthy Achievements: He has held titles in both WEC and UFC.
Cruz’s professional journey began in 2005. He started undefeated at 9-0 before facing Urijah Faber at WEC 27, where he suffered his first career loss. Despite this setback, he rebounded in 2010, claiming the WEC bantamweight title and defending it twice before the UFC acquired the organization.
Once in the UFC, Cruz avenged his loss to Faber and defeated future flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson in 2011. However, a series of injuries led him to vacate his title, only to reclaim it in 2016 against T.J. Dillashaw. Cruz also secured a second victory over Faber, solidifying their rivalry.
Despite facing tough challenges and injuries, Cruz regained the championship but eventually lost it to Cody Garbrandt later that same year. He ended his fighting career with a record of 2-2 over his final four bouts, facing significant injury setbacks. His planned retirement fight in 2025 against Rob Font was canceled due to yet another injury, leading up to his eventual retirement.
Induction Ceremony
Dominick Cruz’s induction ceremony is scheduled for the summer of 2026. His inclusion in the UFC Hall of Fame solidifies his legacy as a dominant force in the bantamweight division, alongside other legends like Georges St-Pierre and Amanda Nunes.
