Residents Encouraged to Raise £20k for End-of-Life Care Fundraiser
Marie Curie is reaching out to the residents of Dorset to engage in its Great Daffodil Appeal, celebrating its 40th anniversary this March. The charity seeks volunteers to dedicate a few hours to distribute daffodil pins in exchange for donations. This initiative spans various locations, including Gillingham, Lyme Regis, and Bournemouth, from February until the end of April.
Impact of Donations and Fundraising Goals
Previous donations have significantly impacted the charity, enabling it to provide care to nearly 40,000 individuals across the UK through its hospices. In Dorset, the funds raised contribute to crucial services, including:
- Information and support services
- Bereavement support
- A scheme addressing fuel poverty in Bournemouth
Additionally, the money gathered supports a free helpline and web chat service available to those facing terminal illnesses and their families.
Call for Volunteers
Evie Wilson, a community fundraiser for Marie Curie, emphasized the importance of local engagement. She noted that if residents of Dorset can collectively raise £20,000, it would help set a goal of £40,000 for the counties of Somerset and Dorset, marking this milestone anniversary.
Wilson remarked, “Volunteering is rewarding, and our team will provide support to ensure volunteers have all they need to succeed. Giving just two hours of your time can have a lasting impact for those in need of end-of-life care.”
