Sean Bean Takes the Helm of Award-Winning Get Birding Podcast

Sean Bean has been named the new host of the acclaimed podcast, Get Birding. This marks his first venture as a podcast host. The series is designed for bird enthusiasts of all levels, from novices to seasoned watchers.

Launch of Get Birding with Sean Bean

The inaugural episode was released in anticipation of the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch. This annual event encourages people to observe birds in their gardens as part of a national survey.

Sean Bean’s Background in Birdwatching

Bean is a celebrated actor, known for his work in “The Lord of the Rings” and “Game of Thrones.” He is a two-time BAFTA TV award winner and an International Emmy recipient. Despite his fame, Bean’s passion for birdwatching began as a teenager in Sheffield. He spent many hours exploring local gardens and fields with friends, binoculars in hand.

“Birdwatching is a great way to connect with nature and relax,” Bean shared. “I’m thrilled to embark on this adventure with the Get Birding community.”

Podcast Format and Features

The podcast will feature Bean’s personal birding experiences along with stories from celebrity guests. The first episode guests include Guy Garvey, the frontman of Elbow and a presenter on BBC Radio 6 Music.

Returning to the series is Dr. Mya-Rose Craig, known as Birdgirl. At just 23, she is recognized as one of the world’s most accomplished birdwatchers. Craig, who hosted the previous series, will guide Bean with practical sessions on various birding topics. This includes advice on bird feeders and caring for birds in winter.

Community and Content Expansion

Get Birding will maintain a bi-weekly schedule. Regular segments will feature the “birdsong of the week” by sound artist Jason Singh, as well as mindful bird poetry and practical tips for listeners.

The podcast is produced by Peanut & Crumb. Creative Director Jane Gerber highlighted the transition to an always-on format, with Bean positioned as a relatable figure for nature connection. Co-Founder Katie Derham noted plans for broader multi-platform content, enhancing the podcast’s visibility.

In addition to the podcast, the Get Birding YouTube channel will feature more birding materials. A new members club named The Flock will be introduced soon, providing a dedicated platform for birdwatching enthusiasts.

Recorded in natural settings, Get Birding aims to educate all generations on local bird species. The initiative is designed to enhance community well-being while encouraging environmental stewardship.
