CPS Energy Advocates Energy Conservation Before Icy Weekend Peak Hours
As frigid temperatures approach Texas this weekend, energy conservation is crucial for both the power grid and household bills. San Antonio is bracing for potentially icy conditions, and local officials are urging residents to reduce electricity consumption during peak hours.
CPS Energy’s Conservation Recommendations
According to CPS Energy spokesperson Milady Nazir, maintaining thermostats at 68 degrees is advisable. This setting ensures that heating systems operate efficiently during cold temperatures.
Homeowners are encouraged to address drafts around windows and doorways. Proper insulation will help retain warmth and reduce energy usage.
Peak Energy Demand Times
Winter energy consumption typically rises during early morning and early evening hours. Nazir highlighted the importance of practicing energy conservation, especially on designated “yellow” days.
- Green Days: Normal grid conditions.
- Yellow Days: Reduced electricity use recommended, especially for high-energy appliances.
On yellow days, residents should consider delaying the use of major appliances like ovens, washers, and dryers to ease the strain on the grid.
Weather Forecast
Temperatures are expected to plummet from near 70 degrees on Friday afternoon to close to freezing by Saturday morning. Cold rain is also forecasted, further emphasizing the need for energy conservation.
“We are prepared with sufficient energy supply,” Nazir stated. “However, we ask for conservation to help save on bills and support the grid.” Residents can find daily updates on conservation levels and grid conditions on the CPS Energy website.
