Teacher Charged with Child Sex Offences, Allegedly Gave Birth to Student’s Baby
A West Australian teacher has been charged with child sex offences after allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a student. Naomi Tekea Craig, aged 33, is facing multiple charges, including sexually penetrating a child and indecent dealing with minors. This investigation stems from incidents reported between 2024 and 2025 at her place of employment in Mandurah, a coastal city south of Perth.
Background and Arrest
Craig was initially charged by child abuse detectives late last year. The allegations include two counts of sexually penetrating a child over 13 but under 16. She was also charged with possession of child exploitation material. Following her arrest, it was revealed that Craig was pregnant, which has prompted further investigation.
New Developments
Recently, Craig has been charged with three additional offences, including:
- Sexually penetrating a child over 13 and under 16
- Indecently dealing with a child over 13 and under 16
- Indecent dealings with a child under 13
WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch confirmed that a DNA test was conducted after Craig gave birth. He indicated that police believe the alleged victim may be the child’s father.
Community and School Response
The allegations have raised significant concern within the community. Premier Roger Cook stated that the charges are serious and expressed that the reports are disturbing. He emphasized the need for caution as the matter is still before the courts.
In response to the situation, Frederick Irwin Anglican School issued a letter to parents notifying them of Craig’s suspension. The school assured parents that there was no believed threat to other students. Craig has been instructed not to visit the school premises during the legal proceedings.
Future Court Dates
Craig is scheduled to appear in court next week to face the new charges. The ongoing investigation highlights the serious nature of offences involving individuals in positions of authority and their responsibilities towards minors.
