Jade Mathieu, 17, Autistic, Boldly Competes on “La Voix”
At just 17 years old, Jade Mathieu is a remarkable example of achieving dreams despite challenges. As a Level 1 autistic individual, she actively showcases her vocal talents, participating in the 11th season of “La Voix.” Additionally, she was a member of Slimane’s team on “The Voice Kids” in France in 2023 and won the Golden Buzzer from Howie Mandel on “Canada’s Got Talent” the following year.
Jade Mathieu’s Journey on “La Voix”
Jade has become a spokesperson for the Société Autisme Laval and is currently studying jazz singing at Cégep de Saint-Laurent in Montreal. During the blind auditions on “La Voix,” she performed “Parler,” a song by Hiba Tawaji from the 2019 film Aladdin. Jade expressed that the song resonates with her personal journey and the broader message of self-affirmation.
Empowering Messages Through Music
“When I sing this song, I think about autism and the importance of expressing oneself,” Jade stated. She believes “La Voix” is the perfect platform to spread messages of hope. The exposure can empower many who watch her performance.
Inspirational Personal Story
Jade’s parents have played a vital role in nurturing her ambitions. They encouraged her in the same way they did with her older brother, who is also autistic. Jade shared, “My brother was once non-verbal, and now he confidently speaks about politics at college, a path many thought impossible.”
Embracing Challenges and Growth
Jade candidly discusses her struggles. “I do experience difficulties, especially in quiet moments,” she explained. She compared her thought process to solving math problems: neurodivergent individuals reach the same conclusions as others but through different methods. This uniqueness is part of her strength.
Launching a New Song
Recently, Jade released her first song as a singer-songwriter titled “Love Yourself.” This track embodies her message of self-confidence and her desire to impact others positively through music. “Music has been a source of growth for me,” she said.
Choosing Her Coach Wisely
For her journey in “La Voix,” Jade selected Mario Pelchat as her coach. She feels that his singing style resonates with her own, further supporting her artistic growth. Jade is also an accomplished musician, playing piano, guitar, and drums.
