Construction Begins on Shipston High School’s New Sports Facilities

Shipston High School in Warwickshire is set to enhance its sports offerings with new facilities. Construction will commence on a £7 million sports hall and changing areas, managed by Ashe Construction. This development aims to support the school’s growing population and improve educational resources.

New Sports Facilities at Shipston High School

The new sports facilities at Shipston High School will feature a multi-use hall. This space will accommodate four badminton courts, a full-size basketball court, and an indoor football venue. Additionally, cricket nets will be included in the design.

Upgraded Changing Rooms and Accessibility

  • Changing rooms will serve 41 students at a time.
  • Facilities will include benches and lockers.
  • Ramped access will ensure usability for disabled individuals.

To promote sustainability, air source heat pumps and solar panels will power the new building. High-level polycarbonate panels will allow for ample natural light, creating a comfortable atmosphere for all users.

Project Details and Community Impact

This year-long project will involve around 40 workers at peak construction times. Ben Wandless, Contract Manager at Ashe, emphasized the need for modern facilities to accommodate the increasing number of students. “The existing gym can no longer meet their needs,” he stated, adding that the new design will support both sports and educational functions.

Jordan Allsworth, the Acting Head Teacher, expressed enthusiasm for the project. He noted, “Our students have a real love for sport, and these new facilities will provide them with a perfect environment.” This exciting development is seen as a major advancement for both the school and the community.

History of Development at Shipston High School

The latest project builds on previous enhancements by Ashe Construction, which include:

  • 2017: Nine-classroom teaching block.
  • 2023: New server room and IT suite.
  • 2024: Upcoming upgrades to classrooms and science labs.

Furthermore, the construction team has also refurbished facilities related to design & technology, woodwork, and graphics. The improvements cater not only to students but also aim to benefit the local community, as the gym will be accessible for public use outside of school hours.
