Effort to Boost Blood Supplies: MLK Day of Service Drive Today
The annual MLK Day of Service Blood Drive aims to enhance blood supplies in local hospitals. This year, the event takes place today, coinciding with Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It is organized by News Channel 3-12 and collaborates with Vitalant to address critical needs during this period.

The blood drive is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at three Elks Lodge locations:
- Santa Maria
- San Luis Obispo
- Santa Barbara
Significance of the Event
This is the 8th annual blood drive in this series. Historically, blood donations tend to be lower at the start of the year. Hence, this initiative encourages community members to contribute to a critical local need.
Donation Goals
The objective of the drive is to collect at least 100 donations across all participating sites. All blood collected will remain within the Tri-Counties area, directly benefiting patients in local hospitals.
