Google App Revamps Voice Search Feature on Android

Google has introduced a major redesign of the voice search feature on Android devices. This update enhances voice search accessibility and improves the overall user experience.

Key Features of the Redesigned Voice Search

The revamped voice search can be accessed via the homescreen widget, including the Pixel Launcher, or within any Google Search bar in the app. Here are some notable features of the new interface:

  • A modernized design with a centered gradient ‘G’.
  • A back button accompanied by a three-dot overflow menu leading to Voice settings.
  • Options to set languages, enable or disable spoken results, and choose from various voices, including Cosmo, Neso, Terra, and Cassini.
  • An updated dark theme for a better visual experience.

Interface Changes

The previous interface featured a four-dot waveform design that is now outmoded. In the new setup, users will see a prompt stating “Listening…” along with a face illustration. Additionally, a four-color arc, reminiscent of features from AI Mode and Search Live, is now displayed under the query transcribed above it.

Song Search Improvements

Among the improvements is a larger “Search a song” button, which directs users to a song search interface. This new UI invites users to “Play, Sing, Hum,” replacing the earlier globe animation. A shortcut to Song Search history is now situated in the top-right corner for easy access.

Availability

This update is gradually rolling out with version 17.1 (stable) and 17.2 (beta) of the Google app on Android devices. However, it is not yet widely accessible to all users.

Looking ahead, many hope that Google will also upgrade the text search interface to align with these exciting enhancements.
