Nova Scotia Storm Forces HRCE to Cancel Classes

Severe weather conditions in Nova Scotia have prompted the cancellation of all classes within the Halifax Regional Centre for Education and other municipal districts. Yellow snowfall warnings were issued, forecasting an additional five centimeters of snow, with conditions expected to improve later.

Nova Scotia Storm Impact on Education

The recent snowstorm has led to widespread school closures across multiple regional education centers. This includes districts such as:

  • Halifax Regional Centre for Education
  • South Shore Regional Centre for Education
  • Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education
  • Strait Regional Centre for Education
  • Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education
  • Tri-County Regional Centre for Education
  • Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education

Weather Conditions and Forecast

According to Environment Canada, conditions are expected to improve later in the day. Meteorologist Allister Aalders noted that aside from light snow or flurries, significant disruptions are not anticipated.

Heavy, wet snow fell overnight, leading to power outages affecting approximately 118,000 Nova Scotia Power customers early Monday morning. Utility services estimate most power will be restored by noon.

Transportation Disruptions

The adverse weather has also impacted road travel in the region. Police have closed Highway 118 outbound beyond Exit 13 due to large trucks blocking the roadway. Traffic is being redirected to Highway 107 toward Waverley Road to mitigate congestion.

With the potential for further disturbances later today, residents are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and travel advisories.
