Thanks to the quick actions of his friend, the boy was pulled from the water. One of his friends jumped in to help, demonstrating remarkable bravery, according to NSW Police Superintendent Joseph McNulty. Other friends also assisted in bringing the boy to safety on a rock face.

Emergency Response

Emergency services received the call at approximately 4:20 PM at Hermitage Foreshore Walk. A police boat arrived promptly, and officers administered critical first aid, including applying tourniquets and performing CPR. These actions were crucial in stopping the severe bleeding, potentially saving the boy’s life.

Paramedics’ Role in Saving Lives

Upon reaching the shore, an ambulance crew awaited to continue the life-saving efforts. Superintendent McNulty called the paramedics’ work “miraculous,” highlighting their successful stabilization of the boy in a resuscitation situation. Despite being in grave condition, the boy survived the initial ordeal.

Ongoing Medical Treatment

The boy underwent surgery overnight at Sydney Children’s Hospital. Paramedics had to revive him upon arrival, and his condition remains precarious. McNulty confirmed that police had taken measures to ensure swift transport to the hospital, giving the child a “green light corridor” for a faster response.

Warning About Swimming Conditions

Authorities suspect the attack involved a bull shark due to the nature of the injuries. Marine biologist Lawrence Chlebeck noted that recent rainfall has driven these sharks closer to shore, increasing risks for swimmers. Superintendent McNulty warned residents to reconsider swimming in local waters during this time.
