The contest took place on Kings Beach at Caloundra, where around 300 spectators gathered to witness thirty contestants compete for the title of Irwin’s unofficial doppelganger. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and nostalgia as participants showcased their best Irwin impersonations.

Matt Stoeckel, CEO of Visit Sunshine Coast, expressed the community’s enthusiasm, saying, “To welcome Robert Irwin home after six months, we had a bit of fun.” Contestants were judged on their physical resemblance, charisma, and ability to entertain with props such as toy crocodiles and traditional khaki outfits.
Winner of the Contest
Ben Marshall, a local resident from Caloundra, clinched the title after impressing judges with his striking look and lively dance moves. His performance stood out, earning him the top spot and a cash prize. “I was up all night practising, so yeah, I’m glad I took out the win,” Marshall stated.
Robert Irwin himself took to social media, calling the event “classic,” further highlighting the community spirit surrounding his return.
