West Fort Collins Shelter-in-Place Ordered After Early Morning Chase
Early on January 16, a significant law enforcement operation unfolded in West Fort Collins. A shelter-in-place was ordered for residents following a high-speed police chase involving multiple suspects.
Incident Overview
Just before 2 a.m., deputies from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle for suspected DUI. The stop occurred near Peterson Street and East Mulberry Street. However, the driver refused to comply and sped westward, evading the officers for several miles.
Law Enforcement Response
To safely end the pursuit, officers executed a precision immobilization technique (PIT maneuver). This tactic caused the vehicle to crash on South Overland Trail. Following the crash, the driver and several passengers exited the vehicle. Two individuals were detained at the scene, while two others fled into a neighboring area.

Law enforcement, including Fort Collins Police Services and Colorado State University Police, established a perimeter around the area. The two fleeing suspects were eventually found hiding in a garage on Morgan Court.

Three of the four individuals involved in the incident were arrested. The charges against them relate not only to this event but also to existing warrants. It is important to note that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
