Poland Alerts on Unidentified Objects Entering Airspace Overnight
Poland has raised alarms regarding unidentified objects entering its airspace, particularly from Belarus. The National Security Bureau (Biuro Bezpieczeństwa Narodowego, BBN) is closely monitoring the situation. President Karol Nawrocki is receiving regular updates about the ongoing developments from the head of BBN.
Incidents of Smuggling Activity
On the night of January 16 to 17, Polish authorities in Białystok discovered a smuggling balloon. This balloon contained 1,500 packs of cigarettes that lacked Polish tax stamps. A second instance was reported in Wierzchłowce, Sokółka County, where an attempt was made to smuggle in 150 cartons of cigarettes without proper documentation.
Ongoing Surveillance and Analysis
BBN has confirmed that it has been actively overseeing these incidents throughout the night. They have been collecting and analyzing information from military and civilian institutions.
Potential Provocation
Similar occurrences previously took place from December 24 to 25, 2025, when 59 objects entered Polish airspace from Belarus. BBN suggests that these incidents might be provocations disguised as smuggling activities.
Public Safety Advisory
Authorities are urging the public to stay informed through police and border guard updates. Citizens are also advised to avoid approaching any objects, packages, or debris that could be linked to these incidents. If such items are found, they should be reported immediately to the appropriate authorities.
