Brimbank Celebrates Midsumma Festival with Fun and Festivities

The Midsumma Festival is set to transform Brimbank this summer, promoting inclusivity and celebration in a vibrant atmosphere. Running from January 18 to February 8, the festival will feature the Midsumma Westside program, which highlights local LGBTQIA+ stories and community engagement.

This year, Brimbank is excited to host a series of events celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community. Brimbank’s Mayor, Virginia Tachos, emphasized the importance of this festival for local residents: “We’re proud to support our LGBTQIA+ community by bringing the creativity and connections of Australia’s premier queer arts and cultural Midsumma Festival to venues across Melbourne’s west.”

Brimbank LGBTQIA+ History Exhibition

A major highlight of the festival is the Brimbank LGBTQIA+ History Exhibition, supported by the Australian Queer Archives. This exhibition showcases significant LGBTQIA+ stories and artifacts that define the area’s queer heritage.

The exhibition opens with a gala event at 6 PM on Thursday, January 22, at the Bowery Gallery, located within the St Albans Community Centre. While admission is free, attendees must secure reservations for the gala. The exhibition continues from January 16 until April 4, providing ample opportunity for exploration.

Pride Pool Party

To further enhance the summer festivities, Brimbank will also host a Pride Pool Party in Sunshine. Scheduled for Saturday, January 24, at the Sunshine Leisure Centre, this event is designed to be inclusive and welcoming.
