Patricia Paquin Moves On After Leaving Rythme 105.7
Patricia Paquin has moved on following her unexpected departure from Rythme 105.7. In a candid interview on Sophie Durocher’s show, “Dans le blanc des yeux,” she expressed a sense of closure regarding her sudden job loss.
Transition from Rythme 105.7
Paquin explained that within days of the announcement, she had begun to process the situation. Despite discussing her experiences on social media and podcasts, she emphasized her decision to look ahead. “Once things are said, I move on,” she stated. “At some point, you have to keep going,” underscoring her lack of bitterness about the events.
Change in Co-hosting Role
News of Paquin’s dismissal came in August 2024, while she was vacationing. She learned that her position as co-host on “Les filles du lunch,” alongside Marie-Ève Janvier, would be filled by Maripier Morin. Morin herself had recently navigated a career shift following her departure from WKND, which was undergoing changes.
Industry Challenges and Radio’s Future
Paquin’s exit is part of a broader trend of layoffs at Cogeco Média, the parent company of Rythme. She contended that the issue in commercial radio is not the age of hosts but the outdated music playlists that fail to attract younger audiences. “Young people aren’t listening to the radio. They’re uninterested in songs from a different era,” Paquin argued.
She suggested that radio stations need to rethink their music selection, proposing playlists that incorporate over 200 songs to draw in a younger demographic. With the rise of streaming platforms, Paquin believes it is imperative for commercial radio to redefine its approach to remain relevant.
Recognition of Public Radio Efforts
While critiquing commercial radio, Paquin praised public music stations for successfully promoting emerging artists and offering innovative programming. Her insights reflect a growing concern about the future of traditional radio amid changing listening habits.
