Cowboys to Interview Eagles’ Pass-Game Coach Christian Parker
The Dallas Cowboys are set to interview Christian Parker, the Eagles’ defensive backs coach and pass game coordinator, for their open defensive coordinator role. This meeting is scheduled for Wednesday and marks the seventh candidate considered since the Cowboys parted ways with Matt Eberflus on January 6.
Background on Christian Parker
Christian Parker has spent the past two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. Under defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, the Eagles have consistently been a top-10 defense against the pass. During Parker’s first season in 2024, Philadelphia led the NFL in passing defense, allowing just 174.2 yards per game.
- 2024: Eagles ranked first in passing defense (174.2 yards allowed per game)
- 2025: Developed rookie corners Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean
- Both Mitchell and DeJean were named first-team All-Pros in 2025
Mitchell had an impressive season, allowing only one touchdown when targeted and achieving a completion percentage of 42.4% against him, the best among corners with at least 500 coverage snaps. DeJean excelled as well, leading all slot corners with a 59.7% completion percentage allowed, along with 15 passes defensed and two interceptions.
Coaching Journey
Parker started his coaching career in college football immediately after finishing his playing career at Richmond. He began as the defensive backs coach at Virginia State in 2013 at the age of 22. His career path included:
- Virginia State (2013-2014): Defensive backs coach
- Norfolk State (2015-2016): Defensive backs coach
- Notre Dame (2017): Defensive analyst
- Texas A&M (2018): Defensive analyst
- Green Bay Packers (2019-2020): Defensive quality control coach
- Denver Broncos (2021-2022): Defensive backs coach
While with the Broncos, he was instrumental in developing star cornerback Patrick Surtain, who achieved four interceptions as a rookie and later earned Pro Bowl selections and a first-team All-Pro honor in 2022. Parker joined the Eagles’ staff after the 2023 season.
