Kennedy Center’s Annual MLK Concert Moves to New Venue This Year

Let Freedom Ring, a cherished concert honoring Martin Luther King Jr., is set to relocate this year. The iconic event, which has been held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts for over two decades, will take place at the historic Howard Theatre in Washington, D.C. This year’s concert, scheduled for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, will feature actor and rapper Common as the headliner. Throughout its history, Let Freedom Ring has hosted numerous renowned artists, including Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, and Chaka Khan. Marc Bamuthi Joseph, the former artistic director for social impact at the Kennedy Center, expressed his thoughts on the venue transition. The Kennedy Center has also announced that the upcoming celebration will feature the Missionary Kings of Harmony from the United House of Prayer for All People’s Anacostia congregation, adding diversity to the musical lineup.
