Sooshi Mango Comedy Trio to Launch Nonna-Chic Sandwich Shop Soon
Comedy trio Sooshi Mango is expanding its culinary presence on Lygon Street in Carlton, Australia. Following the success of their restaurant, Johnny, Vince & Sam’s Ristorante, they are set to launch a new sandwich shop called Sangaweech. This grab-and-go outlet will be located just three doors down, bringing a nostalgic Italian vibe reminiscent of a traditional nonna’s kitchen.
Exciting Features of Sangaweech
Sangaweech is designed to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Key features include:
- Orange laminex benches
- Cream-patterned retro tiles
- An inviting dessert display
- Lace curtains
- Staff uniforms with an ’80s flair
The sandwich shop is expected to open in the latter half of February and aims to provide both indoor and kerbside seating. The name Sangaweech honors the way an Italian nonna pronounces “sandwich.”
Commitment to Quality
Joe Salanitri, Carlo Salanitri, and Andrew Manfre have dedicated 18 months to perfecting this venture. They envision food as an integral part of their brand. Andrew Manfre explained, “For us, the fourth member of Sooshi Mango is food.”
Focus on Ingredients
The trio emphasizes the importance of high-quality ingredients and baking techniques. Chef Johnny Di Francesco, famous for 400 Gradi, recently trained in Padua, Italy. He worked closely with a flour technician to ensure the best possible bread quality.
Menu Highlights
Sangaweech will feature an array of made-to-order sandwiches and house-made dressings. Menu highlights include:
- Panino with prosciutto, mortadella, salami, and capsicum
- Potato, sausage, and pepper sandwich
- Chicken cotoletta bites
- Deep-fried mozzarella sticks
- Hand-cut nonna-style chips
Included in the menu will be a selection of enticing beverages, such as hot and iced coffees, and thick shakes in collectible cups.
Preserving Italian Heritage
According to Andrew Manfre, choosing Lygon Street was strategic. The goal is to invigorate the area and keep Italian heritage alive. They hope to attract visitors from various backgrounds to enjoy the local culture.
A Bright Future Ahead
Despite initial skepticism about their restaurant, Sooshi Mango has proven its staying power. The trio has turned down restaurant offers in other cities to focus on making their current venture iconic.
Sangaweech is set to open daily for lunch and dinner at 300 Lygon Street, Carlton. Prepare for an authentic taste of Italian tradition fused with a contemporary twist.
