Verizon Outage Disrupts Cell Service Nationwide in the US
Verizon has experienced a significant service outage, disrupting cell service across many regions in the United States. The problems became apparent just before 1 PM ET, impacting both iPhone and Android users. While iPhones displayed an “SOS” signal, Android devices showed either a blank or crossed-out network icon, indicating a complete loss of service.
Impact of the Verizon Outage
This outage has severely affected mobile data access for customers, while text messaging remains functional via Wi-Fi, utilizing services like Google Messages RCS and Apple iMessage. However, voice calls have proven unreliable, as tested with a Galaxy Z Fold 7 on the Verizon network. Additionally, Verizon’s home internet service is also experiencing disruptions.
Geographical Scope of the Outage
According to outage maps, the service interruption is predominantly concentrated on the East Coast, though there are numerous reports from the West Coast as well. The company’s network status page is currently not fully operational, making it difficult for users to get updates.
Verizon’s Response
Verizon acknowledged the outage, stating, “We are aware of an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers. Our engineers are engaged and are working to identify and solve the issue quickly.” The company emphasized the importance of reliable connectivity and apologized for the disruption.
Effect on Other Carriers
While some users of Verizon’s MVNOs, including Visible, appear unaffected, there have been minor reports of network issues from AT&T and T-Mobile users. However, these problems do not seem to be as extensive and may be due to difficulties reaching Verizon subscribers via calls or SMS.
