Joshua Colley, J. Harrison Ghee, Jordan Tyson to Join HADESTOWN Cast

Beginning March 3rd, Hadestown will introduce an entirely new principal cast on Broadway. This acclaimed musical will present Disney Channel star Joshua Colley in the role of ‘Orpheus.’ Alongside him, J. Harrison Ghee, a Tony and Grammy Award winner, will take on the role of ‘Hermes.’ The cast will also feature television and film actor Gary Dourdan as ‘Hades,’ Grammy winner Gaby Moreno as ‘Persephone,’ and Broadway rising star Jordan Tyson as ‘Eurydice.’

Hadestown’s Ongoing Success

Hadestown is currently enjoying its seventh successful year on Broadway, performing at the Walter Kerr Theatre. The musical is also set to begin its third year in the West End, marking a return to London six years after its initial engagement at The National Theatre.

National and Global Productions

  • The North American tour concluded a record-breaking three-year run in 2024.
  • Hadestown has expanded internationally with productions in cities like Sydney, Melbourne, Amsterdam, and South Korea.
  • A new production is scheduled to premiere in Brazil during the summer of 2026.

Farewell to the Current Cast

Current stars Morgan Dudley, Kurt Elling, Allison Russell, Paulo Szot, and Jack Wolfe will perform their final shows on March 1. The cast includes Jessie Shelton, Kay Trinidad, and Brit West as the ‘Fates.’ The ‘Workers’ chorus features actors like Emily Afton and Malcolm Armwood.

Notably, Hadestown originated as an indie theater project by Anaïs Mitchell in Vermont. This project evolved into a celebrated album and, ultimately, a genre-defying musical under the creative guidance of director Rachel Chavkin. The narrative intertwines two love stories: that of dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and the powerful King Hades and his wife Persephone.

Musical Experience and Themes

Hadestown combines modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz. The musical invites audiences on an emotional journey to the underworld and back, exploring themes of industry versus nature, doubt versus faith, and fear versus love. The dynamic performances create a resonant experience that fills the theater with hope and passion.
