Louise Roe, the founder of Sharland England, draws inspiration for her home design from her experiences and surroundings. Initially unaware of the charm of her Surrey hometown, Roe found herself longing for the English countryside after a decade in Los Angeles. In 2019, she and her husband, Mackenzie Hunkin, relocated back to England with their daughter, Honor, seeking a period property with character.
Moving to London
After spending time in a Georgian rectory in Oxfordshire, the family yearned for the vibrancy of London. They eventually settled into a 3,000-square-foot Victorian townhouse in Southwest London, just as Roe was six months pregnant with her second child, Inès.
Renovations and Touches of Romance
Roe made minimal structural changes to the house, focusing instead on cosmetic updates. She installed aged, tumbled parquet oak floors and reinstated a salvaged fireplace, while also widening the archway between reception rooms. Her favorite area to relax and entertain is the living room, characterized by:

For her upcoming 2025 collection with Crate & Kids, Roe focused on rattan lighting. She appreciates the cottage feel it brings and emphasizes the importance of selecting the right bulb for the desired warmth.

- Vintage Georgian Bureau Desk: Purchased in 2018 for about $2,680 at Garden House Antiques, this piece symbolizes a significant transition for Roe. Its history is deeply romantic; built nearly 300 years ago, it has housed numerous stories.
- Antique Wooden Frame: Roe invests in frames rather than the art itself. She found a wooden frame at a London flea market for $30, which she paired with a mountain landscape painting from Paris. She believes that the right frame can transform any artwork.
