Joel Kim Booster and John Michael Sudsina celebrated their marriage on December 30, 2025, at the Exploratorium in San Francisco. The couple’s journey began in May 2021 when they both ventured to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, after receiving their COVID-19 vaccines. Initially, neither anticipated falling in love during their first trip post-lockdown.

During the trip, the two met at a nightclub called Industry, where they were introduced by mutual friends. Their conversation was animated, despite the loud music. “We were pretty much scream-whispering stories into each other’s ears,” Mr. Kim Booster reminisced.

As they bonded over their shared love for musicals, they experienced an awkward yet magical moment. While walking in opposite directions, both attempted to kiss and ended up sharing a spontaneous kiss. Following the incident, they spent the night talking on the beach until sunrise, forging a connection that labeled their weekend as “vacation boyfriends.”

Growing Their Relationship

After returning home, the couple utilized FaceTime to watch animated shows together, further strengthening their bond. Mr. Sudsina, anticipating the Pride parade in San Francisco, excitedly invited Mr. Kim Booster, who openly shared his feelings on podcasts about their emerging relationship.

Their first official date followed a lively weekend at San Francisco Pride, where they danced and enjoyed each other’s company. Afterward, Mr. Kim Booster initiated his preproduction work for “Fire Island,” while Mr. Sudsina began settling into his new life in Los Angeles.

On a trip to Jeju Island, South Korea, in September 2024, Mr. Kim Booster proposed to Mr. Sudsina in a hilariously unpredictable setting. Although the moments leading up to the engagement were not what he envisioned, he described them as perfect.

Ceremony Details

On their wedding day, the couple exchanged vows before 167 guests at the Exploratorium, officiated by Mr. Kim Booster’s childhood friend. They made a conscious decision to keep the ceremony under 25 minutes to maximize party time.

Mr. Kim Booster donned an ivory Bode suit, while Mr. Sudsina wore a sleek black Peter Do suit. Their guest list enjoyed a vibrant celebration, featuring an exciting mix of disco and house music, courtesy of DJ Alexis Tucci.

Future Aspirations

After their wedding, the couple spent time celebrating with guests before participating in San Francisco’s annual Breakfast of Champions block party on New Year’s Day. Mr. Sudsina expressed his excitement about their journey together and the families they hope to build in the future.
