Here’s a closer look at the newly signed players:

Miles Battle

Miles Battle, 25, stands 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 197 pounds. He began his NFL career as a rookie free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs in May 2024 after graduating from Utah.

Battle joined the Patriots on October 15, 2024, and was briefly promoted to the 53-man roster in January 2025. He participated in five games last season, recording three tackles.

D’Ernest Johnson

At 29, D’Ernest Johnson brings significant experience, having played seven games with the Patriots last season. He had 14 rushing attempts for 25 yards and 5 kickoff returns totaling 128 yards.

Johnson’s journey includes time with the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Baltimore Ravens since entering the NFL in 2019. He signed with New England on October 29, 2025, after being released by Arizona.

Lorenz Metz

Lorenz Metz, a 26-year-old tackle, has experience in the International Player Pathway Program. The 6-foot-9, 330-pounder originally entered the league in 2023 with the Chicago Bears.

Metz has spent the last two seasons on the Tampa Bay practice squad, contributing to his development as an NFL player.

Trent Sherfield Sr.

Trent Sherfield, 29, has an extensive NFL career spanning eight seasons. He has played for multiple teams, including stints with Arizona, San Francisco, Miami, Buffalo, Minnesota, and Denver.

His career totals include 89 receptions for 1,034 yards and 6 touchdowns over 124 games. Sherfield was signed to the Patriots practice squad after being released by Denver earlier this season.

Released Players

In conjunction with these additions, two players have been released from the practice squad:

This revamp of the practice squad indicates the Patriots’ commitment to enhancing their roster and adapting as the season progresses. Staying competitive in the league requires strategic moves, and these changes reflect the team’s forward-thinking approach.
