Jaecoo 7 Unveils Sleek Sibling Arriving in UK This Year

The Lepas L6 is set to make its debut in the UK towards the end of this year. This hybrid and electric crossover aims to compete with the popular Hyundai Kona. As the second UK model from Lepas, following the flagship L8 due this summer, the L6 joins a competitive landscape including vehicles like the Mazda CX-5 and Toyota RAV4.

Overview of Lepas Brand

Lepas, a brand developed by Chinese automotive giant Chery, strives to appeal to European consumers. It is also related to other brands such as Omoda and Jaecoo. The name Lepas combines elements of “leopard,” “leap,” and “passion,” reflecting the brand’s dynamic vision.

Powertrain Options for the L6

The five-seat L6 will offer two powertrains: a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and a battery-electric option. The PHEV shares the 204bhp powertrain with the Jaecoo 7, which recently became the best-selling car in the UK.

PHEV Specifications

  • Engine: 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol
  • Power output: 204bhp
  • Battery: 18.3kWh
  • Combined range: 700 miles
  • Electric-only range: 56 miles

Battery Electric Specifications

  • Battery: 67kWh
  • Range: 270 miles
  • Rapid-charge time: 30-80% in 20 minutes

The electric L6 marks an advancement over its siblings, the Jaecoo E5 and Omoda E5, which utilize a 61kWh battery with a range of 257 miles and require 28 minutes for a similar charge.

Interior Features and Design

While specific interior details of the L6 are still under wraps, insights can be gleaned from the larger L8 model. The L8 is equipped with a 13.2-inch portrait-oriented infotainment touchscreen, physical buttons for climate control, and a wireless phone charger.

Market Introduction and Expectations

Ray Wang, Managing Director of Lepas UK, remarked that the L6 signifies an important milestone for the brand as it expands in the UK and European markets. Pricing and detailed trim specifications will be announced as the vehicle’s release date approaches in the last quarter of this year.
