Ukraine Reports Over 400 Easter Ceasefire Violations by Russia
Ukraine’s military reported over 400 violations of a recently established Easter ceasefire by Russian forces. This situation unfolded following a ceasefire that was announced by President Vladimir Putin, set to last from April 11 at 4:00 PM until the end of April 12.
Overview of Ceasefire Violations
As of April 11, Ukraine’s General Staff documented a total of 469 infractions since the ceasefire took effect. These include:
- 22 enemy assault actions
- 153 instances of shelling
- 19 kamikaze drone strikes
- 275 FPV drone strikes
Combat Clashes Recorded
In addition to the ceasefire breaches, 101 combat clashes were reported along the frontline. Specific regions experiencing clashes included:
- North Slobozhansk and Kursk: Four clashes
- South Slobozhansk: Five attacks near Starytsia, Veterinarne, Prylipka, and Vovchanski Khutory
- Other areas: Kupyansk, Lyman, Slavyansk, and Kostyantynivka
Responses from Both Sides
In contrast, Russian authorities claimed that Ukraine had violated the ceasefire as well. They alleged Ukrainian drone strikes targeted the Kursk and Belgorod regions, resulting in injuries to five individuals.
Statements from Leaders
President Volodymyr Zelensky responded strongly to these allegations. He emphasized Ukraine’s willingness to engage in reciprocal actions, stating that Ukraine had previously proposed a ceasefire for the Easter holidays. In his address on April 11, he indicated readiness to prolong the ceasefire while warning that any further violations would lead to a proportional response.
The situation remains tense, with both sides maintaining differing narratives about the ongoing conflict. As such, the effectiveness of the Easter ceasefire continues to be in question.
