RAF Spy Plane’s Lebanon Mission Puts Pressure on Keir Starmer During Israel Strikes

An RAF spy plane’s Lebanon mission has deepened scrutiny of Keir Starmer amid the recent Israel strikes. Filmogaz.com has verified flight-tracking data showing a UK surveillance drone over Lebanon on April 8, 2026.

Flight details

Independent journalist Matt Kennard first identified the aircraft. He posted about the flight on April 9, 2026.

The drone was a UK MQ-9 Reaper. It left RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus at 08:21 local time on April 8.

The aircraft crossed Lebanese airspace and circled near Baalbek. It returned to base at 21:32, after more than 13 hours airborne.

Strikes and casualties

The surveillance flight coincided with heavy Israeli strikes on April 8. The Israeli Defence Forces reported attacks on more than 100 sites.

Targets were in Beirut’s southern suburbs, southern Lebanon and the eastern Bekaa Valley. The IDF described some strikes as aimed at Hezbollah command centres.

Lebanon’s Civil Defence reported at least 254 deaths and 1,165 injuries. Lebanon’s parliament speaker called the strikes a “full‑fledged war crime.”

Political reaction

The timing of the Lebanon mission has prompted political backlash. The Scottish Greens described the situation as very alarming for the prime minister.

Patrick Harvie, the party’s external affairs spokesperson, said the extent of UK involvement remains murky. He urged the prime minister to explain the UK’s role in these conflicts.

Campaigners and opposition figures say the flights raise difficult questions about British collaboration and oversight.

History of UK surveillance operations

The UK has faced criticism for surveillance flights over Gaza since December 2023. Hundreds of missions were reported in that period.

The Ministry of Defence has said some operations used Shadow R1 aircraft based at RAF Akrotiri. The MoD stated those flights were tasked solely to locate hostages taken on October 7, 2023.

Pro‑Palestine groups say gathered intelligence could be used in offensive operations. They have repeatedly called for greater transparency and restraint.

Calls for clarity

Opponents demand answers from the government. The UK was approached for comment on the April 8 flight.

Filmogaz.com will continue to monitor responses and report further developments.
