A source confirmed to MassLive that the Celtics have reached a two-year contract with Banton. Notably, the second year of this deal is non-guaranteed. Michael Scotto from Hoopshype was the first to report on this agreement.
Previous Tenure with the Celtics
Banton previously joined the Celtics in February 2024, signing a 10-day contract. However, he was not re-signed due to salary cap constraints. The Celtics were working to remain under the luxury tax threshold at that time.
Recently, Banton has returned to Boston, providing much-needed support as the Celtics gear up for the playoffs. Before rejoining the Celtics, he spent some time this season with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Banton’s Performance History
Dalano Banton had a noteworthy stint in the NBA prior to his return. During the 2022-2023 season, he played for the Portland Trail Blazers, where he averaged 8.3 points and 2.3 assists across 67 games.
- 2021 NBA Draft: Selected as the No. 46 overall pick.
- Career averages: 6.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game over 220 games.
- G-League experience after being cut by the Dallas Mavericks during training camp.
This season, Banton made five appearances with an average of 2.0 points and 0.8 assists per game while with the Celtics and Clippers.
Upcoming Game Expectations
As the Celtics prepare for their final regular-season game, Coach Joe Mazzulla may opt to rest several players. Banton could be given significant playing time in this crucial matchup.
With this addition, the Boston Celtics are looking to strengthen their lineup as they head into the playoffs, aiming for a successful postseason run.
