CSK Legends Criticize Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Captaincy in Fiery Debate
Chennai Super Kings remain winless in IPL 2026 as the tournament reaches its third matchweek. The five-time champions have struggled since last season and sit near the bottom of the table.
Pressure mounts on captaincy
Former players and pundits have openly criticised Ruturaj Gaikwad. CSK legends have joined a fiery debate to criticize Ruturaj Gaikwad’s captaincy after recent errors in bowling changes.
Balaji’s specific objections
Lakshmipathy Balaji targeted one tactical decision in particular. He argued Gaikwad mismanaged English all-rounder Jamie Overton against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Balaji noted Overton bowled two early overs for 12 runs and took a wicket. He was then returned late and conceded 30 runs in the 19th over. Overton finished with 42 runs conceded in three overs, with Tim David hitting four sixes in that penultimate over.
Death bowling and role clarity
Balaji urged CSK to avoid using Overton in the death overs. He said a captain should back bowlers who are bowling well and finish their overs when the plan works.
He recommended Akeal Hosein be included in the playing XI instead of Prashant Veer. Balaji described Veer as a player who has not been bowling enough this season.
Management and expensive signings questioned
Former CSK batter Subramaniam Badrinath also criticised team management decisions. He slammed the franchise for splashing INR 14.20 crore each on Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma.
Badrinath argued the high auction prices created undue pressure. He added that those recruitment choices reflect a selection error by the franchise rather than player failure.
Looking ahead
CSK face Delhi Capitals next at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The team will seek its first victory and quick tactical corrections.
Filmogaz.com will continue to monitor developments as the debate around leadership and selection intensifies.
