Netflix Shelves ‘Perfect’ Olympics Film After Millie Bobby Brown’s Exit

Netflix’s upcoming Olympic gymnastics film “Perfect” will not be moving forward after the departure of Millie Bobby Brown. Sources close to the project have confirmed that Brown left due to creative differences. Her involvement was initially announced in September of the previous year.

About the Film and Its Cast

Brown was set to portray Kerri Strug, a pivotal member of the celebrated 1996 USA gymnastics team, known as the “Magnificent Seven.” The film was to be directed by Gia Coppola, with Ronnie Sandahl as the screenwriter.

Additionally, Brown planned to produce the film through her company, PMCA. Leading the production efforts alongside Brown were Nik Bower from Riverstone Pictures and Thomas Benski from Magna Studios.

Kerri Strug’s Historic Performance

Kerri Strug became a household name during the 1996 Olympics when she landed a perfect vault despite competing with an injured ankle. This courageous act helped her team secure the gold medal. After the landing, her coach had to carry her off the mat, marking a memorable moment in Olympic history.

  • Strug’s determination saw her participate in the gold medal ceremony, with her coach again assisting her to the podium.
  • She was celebrated nationally, appearing on various talk shows, including a parody on “Saturday Night Live.”
  • Her image even graced the Wheaties box, symbolizing her heroic status.

Post-Gymnastics Career

Following her gymnastics career, Strug transitioned into education as an elementary school teacher. She has also held various roles within the White House and the Justice Department.

Millie Bobby Brown’s Ongoing Projects

Millie Bobby Brown gained immense popularity for her role in Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” which she starred in from the age of 12. She recently concluded five successful seasons of the series.

Her upcoming works include:

  • “Enola Holmes 3,” premiering on Netflix this summer.
  • A rom-com titled “Just Picture It,” where she stars and produces alongside Gabrielle LaBelle.
  • A film adaptation of her debut novel “Nineteen Steps,” also for Netflix.

Spokespersons for both Netflix and Brown have opted not to comment on the project’s cancellation.
