Grieving Mother Urges Trump to Take Action After Losing Son in Iran War
Donna Burhans, a grieving mother from Winter Haven, Florida, is coping with the death of her son, Cody Khork, who lost his life in the recent conflict in Iran. To manage her grief, the 67-year-old has established a routine that includes solitary walks on her family’s 35-acre farm. It is there that she finds solace among her animals while reflecting on her son.
Cody Khork, 35, was one of 13 Americans killed in military operations against Iran, which are currently paused as negotiators pursue a peace agreement. He died on March 1, during a drone attack on a port in Kuwait, just two days after the war began. The assault claimed the lives of Khork and five other Army reservists.
Cody Khork’s Military Journey
The military was a natural fit for Khork. His family background included a father who served in the Marines. He spent his early years on military bases and developed a passion for military life. His mother recalls how he loved everything about the Army and was nicknamed “Twig” for his slender build.
At the time of his passing, Khork held the rank of captain and was posthumously promoted to major. His military career included deployments in Poland, Saudi Arabia, Guantanamo Bay, and finally Kuwait. He had aspirations of working at the Pentagon and was engaged to his first love.
Community and Personal Support
In their time of sorrow, Burhans and her family have received support from neighbors and local businesses. A nearby barbecue restaurant has helped cater events honoring Khork. Additionally, his alma mater, Florida Southern College, has established a ROTC scholarship in his name.
Burhans finds comfort in her faith and trusts President Trump’s leadership regarding the war. She had the opportunity to speak with Trump at a dignified transfer ceremony in Dover, Delaware, where Khork’s remains were returned. She expressed her wishes that her son’s death would not be in vain and underscored the importance of continuing military efforts against perceived threats.
A Mother’s Message to the President
During her conversation with Trump, Burhans conveyed her support for the military action the U.S. has taken against Iran, stating that the conflict has been a long time coming. She described Trump as a caring individual during their encounter, noting that he appeared distraught over the circumstances of their meeting. “I told him to finish it,” she said, reflecting her resolve and her son’s commitment to serving his country.
As the conflict continues, Burhans remains steadfast in her beliefs, honoring the memory of her son while advocating for decisive action against those she believes threaten the United States.
