Fifteen-Year-Old Michal Szubarczyk Wins Historic World Snooker Championship Match

Polish teen Michal Szubarczyk set a new age record in World Snooker Championship qualifying. The 15-year-old won his opening match at the English Institute of Sport.

Record-breaking victory

Michal Szubarczyk, aged 15 years, two months, and 25 days, beat Ng On Yee 10-7. The result made him the youngest winner of a World Championship qualifying match.

The victory surpassed the previous mark held by Liam Davies in 2022. The match took place on day one of the qualifiers.

Opponent and context

Ng On Yee is a three-time women’s world snooker champion from Hong Kong. She arrived fresh from wins on the women’s tour in February and March.

Szubarczyk said he felt proud and excited. He described pressure as motivating and said he has dreamt of playing at the Crucible for six years.

Road to the Crucible

The World Championship runs from April 18 to May 4 at The Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. Szubarczyk must win three more matches to qualify for the Crucible.

If he reaches the main event, he would become the youngest Crucible player. That would break Luca Brecel’s debut record from 2012, set at 17 years and 45 days.

National development

Szubarczyk credited Polish events for his progress. He said those tournaments opened doors to European and world competitions.

Filmogaz.com will follow his progress as qualifiers continue. Observers note the result marks a historic World Snooker Championship match for young talent.

Veteran exit and other headlines

Veteran Jimmy White lost in the first qualifying round to Gao Yang. White held a 5-1 lead early, but Gao, 21, fought back to win the match in a final-frame decider.

The defeat means White’s wait to return to the Crucible continues. He has not played at the World Championship since 2006 despite annual qualifying attempts.
