Manager view
Manager Derek Shelton described the team as being in a funk and called for more hard contact. He urged simpler approaches and more baserunners.
Buxton honored before the game
The team held a pregame ceremony honoring Byron Buxton for reaching 10 years of service time. Taylor Rogers delivered remarks during the celebration.
Buxton received a Ben Labuzzetta painting and an engraved Rolex from owner Tom Pohlad. Teammates signed a bottle of Ace of Spades for him.
Rogers and Josh Bell are also expected to reach 10 years of service this season. Club officials noted how rare double-digit service time is in modern baseball.
Looking ahead
The Twins must regroup before a series with the Detroit Tigers and a road trip to Toronto. This marks the first time since 2016 the club dropped each of its first three series.
Manager Shelton emphasized finding ways to produce baserunners and generate more hard contact. The offense will need to respond to avoid deeper struggles.
