Savannah Guthrie Reunites with ‘TODAY’ Team During Mother’s Search

Savannah Guthrie returned to the TODAY anchor desk on Monday. Her comeback came more than two months after her mother disappeared near Tucson.

Back on the set

Guthrie wore a bright yellow dress as she sat in Studio 1A. The color echoed the ribbons and flowers left near her mother’s home.

Co-anchor Craig Melvin greeted her warmly and offered a comforting hand. The broadcast moved quickly to national headlines, including the U.S.-Israeli tensions with Iran.

Context of the absence

Guthrie stepped away from her on-air duties in early February. Her mother, Nancy Guthrie, age 84, was reported missing on Feb. 1.

Family members said Nancy did not arrive for a virtual church service around noon on Feb. 1. She was last seen the previous evening after dinner at daughter Annie Guthrie’s home, near the Catalina Foothills area.

Investigation details

Authorities have described the matter as a possible abduction. No suspect or motive has been publicly identified.

The FBI released doorbell-camera footage showing an armed, masked man outside the Guthrie residence the morning Nancy was reported missing. Investigators described the individual as about 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, of average build, wearing a black Ozark Trail Hiker Pack 25-liter backpack.

Family appeals and rewards

Savannah and her siblings, Camron and Annie, have used social media to update the public. They posted emotional messages and asked anyone with information to come forward.

The family has offered up to $1 million for information leading to Nancy’s safe return. The FBI is offering up to $100,000 for tips that lead to recovery or arrest and conviction.

Work adjustments and visit to Studio 1A

Hoda Kotb filled in during Guthrie’s absence. Guthrie also withdrew from NBC’s Milan Cortina Winter Olympics coverage. Mary Carillo co-hosted the opening ceremony with Terry Gannon.

Guthrie visited the TODAY set on March 5. Photographs taken outside the studio showed her embracing colleagues and wiping away tears during a private moment not broadcast on air.

Returning amid the search

Guthrie said returning felt like part of her purpose. She acknowledged the fans gathered at Rockefeller Plaza, many holding signs with her mother’s photo.

Journalists at Filmogaz.com will continue to follow developments. Savannah Guthrie rejoined the ‘TODAY’ team amid her mother’s search, and the investigation remains active.
