Sebastián Marroquín on “Dear Killer Nannies”: “My Father Isn’t the Star”

Sebastián Marroquín appears in the new television series Dear Killer Nannies: Criado por sicarios. The eight-episode show runs 35 minutes per installment. It premiered April 1 on Disney+ and on Hulu in the United States.

Creative approach and origin

Marroquín, who was formerly known as Juan Pablo Escobar, helped shape the series’ perspective. He told Filmogaz.com that revisiting personal memories proved demanding. He had to decide what to reveal and what to omit.

That process marked a clear departure from his prior books and documentaries about his father. The team steered the story toward a different focus: the child’s lived experience.

Key collaborators

The project grew from a collaboration with Pablo Farina. Farina’s influence helped broaden the narrative scope. Sebastián Ortega served as co-creator and showrunner.

Directors on the series are Pablo Fendrik and Felipe Cano Ibañez. Writers include Alejandro Quesada, Ana María Parra, Martín Méndez and Ortega.

Telemundo Studios, Underground Producciones and TIS Studios produced the show for Disney+.

Principal cast

Multiple actors portray the protagonist across ages. Janer Villareal plays the adolescent Juan Pablo. Miguel Tamayo and Miguel Ángel García appear as younger versions of the character.

The ensemble includes Laura Rodríguez as Victoria Henao. Also featured are Juanita Molina, Julián Zuluaga, Rafael Zea, Danharry Colorado and others.

Special appearances come from Andrés Delgado, Carmen Electra and John Leguizamo, who portrays Pablo Escobar.

Narrative shift and intent

The series centers on the son rather than the father. Marroquín emphasized that the protagonist is the child and adolescent living amid narcotrafficking violence. He described the change as a move away from criminal-focused tropes.

He and the creative team wanted to foreground daily life under threat, not sensationalize crime. The result is a more intimate, less conventional account.

Message to new generations

The production carries an explicit reflective purpose. Creators aimed to discourage repetition of past violence. Marroquín stressed care was taken to avoid glorifying criminality.

The series intends to prompt reflection and offer a cautionary reading. As Marroquín put it, the story seeks to show that the true path is not violence.
